John Huebler discovered the LGBTQ+ country/western dance community while attending a hoedown in Montreal. He was an original member of the Grand River Renegades in Grand Rapids Michigan, and co-founded SCCDA in 2014 as a way to grow the dance community at Charlie’s. SCCDA was inspired by dance clubs in Grand Rapids, Washington DC, and San Francisco that all found a successful model in making the dancers the organizers of the events rather than being simply customers in a bar. John co-founded Hoedown In The Dunes (Saugatuck/Douglas Michigan) in 2016, which he continues to chair. His favorite line dance is Dizzy, and he loves partner dancing with his husband and friends – especially the fast two-steps (is anyone Looking For A City?).
